Keep Walking at the Taipei Zoo

I was in Taipei for a quick 3 day getaway. It was more of a sightseeing excursion but we did manage to squeeze in a few culinary adventures along the way! This is the 2nd of 10 parts.

It's a must for my travel companions Murtle and Curly to visit the local zoo when visiting a foreign country, so off  to the wilderness we went!

Taipei Zoo is the most famous urban zoo in Taiwan with over 400 species calling it home. It's also one of the largest zoos in Asia encompassing 165 hectares of land.

We entered the Taipei Zoo via the Maokong Gondola. The Maokong Gondola provides a bird's eye view of the area where the zoo is located and a one way trip from the MRT Taipei Station only costs 30NT or 45 pesos. 

There are two cabin types and we made sure to take a crystal cabin (read: cabins with glass bottoms) for a more interesting ride.

The gondola dropped us off at Taipei Zoo's South Entrance. Good thing there was a free shuttle service that brought us to the central part of the very huge zoo.

One thing I appreciated about Taipei Zoo is that the animals are able to roam given the zoo's humongous land area. Having said that, do expect to walk a mile though to reach all the display areas so don't forget to wear comfortable shoes. Also, bring an umbrella in case the sun's scorching. 

Keep Walking

For animal lovers, a trip to the Taipei Zoo is a must. Just make sure that you have ample time and the willingness to do a lot of walking to see the top attractions (penguins, koalas, pandas) of the site.
